If your lucky enough to be taking a cruise that will be departing from the
port of Los Angeles, you really should consider arriving at least two days
early to experience all that the "Southland" (native speak for the LA Basin)
has to offer the gay and lesbian traveler.
A good and very logical place to start is West Hollywood
obviously the most
well know gay area outside of the "Castro" up north in San Francisco. No
matter what your taste may be from vanilla to kink you will be sure to find
it in the West Hollywood area. Be sure to stroll down West Hollywood's
version of Main Street USA, Santa Monica Boulevard.
You could spend days in West Hollywood and never have to venture more than a
block from Santa Monica Boulevard, there are many great gay and lesbian
owned bookstores and cafes intermingled with bars that suite anyone's taste.
Be sure to check out my personal favorite bar "Rage" It is a high energy
dance club often frequented by celebrities such as Madonna and Sandra
Bernhardt.

There are many lesbian and gay owned guesthouses all with in a block or two walk from this mecca of "family" entertainment. Men make sure you get your copy of the free "Frontiers" magazine for what's hot at the local bar scene. Ladies, there is a similar publication for you, usually in the same rack, I just can't remember the name of it!!!
If you are looking for some fun in the sun and the greatest show on earth
not under a tent, make sure you take a drive west on Santa Monica Boulevard,
about a mile north of the pier (which is a day of fun in and of itself) is
the famed Venice Beach, this beach has everything for everybody. On a
typical day at this beach, you will everything from serious athletes pumping
iron at Muscle Beach to a unicycle riding drag queen that hands out Avon
samples and catalogs to passers by. There truly is something for everyone
at Venice Beach.
As if there wasn't enough "family" entertainment in Los Angeles,
you have
all of Hollywood at your door step with Universal Studios just a short hop
over to Burbank and of course who could forget about Disneyland and Knott's
Berry Farm about an hour south in Anaheim.
Well that' it for this report, have fun, play safe and happy cruising!!!
